Squamish, BC

My wife and I started our little family in Squamish in the fall of 2011 and we simply love living the mountain life. For those of you that have never heard of Squamish before, it’s located on the West Coast of Canada, an hour north of Vancouver and 35 minutes south of Whistler. The area is locally know as the Sea to Sky Corridor and is one of the most beautiful places in the world with it’s towering mountains, coastal atmosphere, rushing rivers and never ending beautiful landscapes. It’s beautiful, friendly and growing. You can’t drive down the street without seeing someone pushing a stroller. It’s great and it’s exciting.

My wife and I run a consulting company from Squamish called WYSIWYG Ventures and I commute to Vancouver most days to work with clients. The work is really about helping companies solve all kinds of challenges and about creating new opportunities. Since we decided to move to Squamish, we’ve been exploring, reading, researching and learning as much as we can about the area. The people, the movers and shakers, the businesses, the media, the government, the challenges and opportunities and of course the natural landscape around us. There is so much to explore and learn and it’s invigorating every day.

The town of Squamish is currently in a transition phase. Once an industrial town focused on the forestry, mining and railway industries, it is fast becoming a tourist destination for outdoor recreation. So much so that the Squamish is now known as the “Recreation Capital of Canada” and for good reason. On any given day, you can participate or watch many different recreation activities. This includes; downhill skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, bouldering, hiking, kite boarding, windsurfing, road biking, cross country skiing, wake boarding, horse back riding, snowmobiling, dirt biking, 4x4ing, para gliding, base jumping, sailing, boating, stand up paddle boarding, Canoeing, bird watching, wildlife watching, BMX racing, swimming, fishing, white water rafting and the list goes on.

Squamish is Growing

There are two exciting developments for me in Squamish. One is the Garibaldi at Squamish Resort development and the other is the Squamish Oceanfront Development Corporation’s vision. The vision is to deliver a vibrant, innovative, sustainable, world-class “work-live-recreate” community showcasing the spirit, cultural heritage and values of the people of Squamish. This video says it all.

  1. I recently “discovered” Squamish when I found out that ‘The Returned’ was filmed there. My wife and I have been talking about moving south (from Fort St John in northern BC) for some time now. We may have both discovered our dream place to live :O
